Grandma

This is Yangdol’s mum on the only occasion her hair has not been in two plaits, on the day of a big local wedding.

She was about to get two new plats and get into her best dress.

Grandma is 86 and has 9 children.  She spends her days circumnavigating the garden praying, or visiting her elderly friends.  When her friends visit here, they sit in their plum coloured Ladakhi wool dresses and turquoise and coral necklaces, eating fresh apricots in the shade on the cement slab.

They fall asleep and are like old rocks in the sun.  She is always well humoured and greets us warmly, carrying on conversations with us in Ladakhi, which of course we cannot understand, but which continues regardless.

Nanna Pat would have loved her and relished sitting out and doing some knitting.

That’s it! I’m growing my hair and celebrating going grey! Missing all you Hill-Wilsons. Life is very mundane back here in Mosman Park without you all…xxx
