A trek up towards Stok Kangri base camp was our first min trek and despite some trepidation in the ranks, it all went well. The track was safe (only one critical bit – “don’t look left” … i.e. over the edge and 20m down into the river). Xavier was great and enthusiastic about going high … this time we made it to about 4000m and then turned around and cruised back to the beautiful village of Stok. On the trail were mainly climbers heading up to the 6000M+ Stok Kangri.
This weekend I’m taking Xavier on an overnighter to the 5400M Diga La, one of the passes into Nubra, all I need do is get the stove to work (along with all the 15yo climbing gear I have with me!

Xavier looks happy and healthy. Nice to see he can manage without his computer on his lap! He will have some brilliant memories of trekking with his dad, and probably a lifelong love of the mountains. The countryside is incredible – an amazingly rugged beauty. How are Josie and Meiduo coping with the hikes? We miss you guys. Lachlan said Mei’s the only girl invited to his birthday party this year. High praise!
Simply stunning. You must have to pinch yourself at times taking in these vistas. Enjoy the weekend trek Xavier, remember don’t pat the putty cats!
